The 1949 Field Marshall was made by the company Marshall, Son & Co in Lincolnshire. The first tractor it made was simply named the Field-Marshall, made from 1930 to 1957. Marshall MP6 replaced the initial model a year before the company halted production of the Field-Marshall. The 1949 Field Marshall is part of the Series 2 model. These tractors were available at six and nine miles per hour gearboxes. Later on, the Series 3 Field-Marshall exceeded this specs at 12 miles per hour. The 1949 Field Marshall was part of the tractors made by the company that embodied various improvements to their classic design. This was because of the demand for more powerful tractors. In a way, it was an answer to the decline in demand of such machinery. The changes made an impact, needless to say. The Field-Marshall tractors were actually used as the model for yet another iconic tractor--the Fowler Crawler. Marshall, Sons & Co. actually had a connection with Fowler--something resulted to the creation of a Track Marshall, a tractor under the Fowler brand. Later on, the Field Marshall tractors had electric starters, although that came later on. Obviously, these tractors were used mainly for agricultural purposes. |
