1947 Chevrolet Coupe

Entry number 18 Geoff and Wendy Crawhall

With the end of the Second World War, there was a desperate shortage of new cars. Low production through the 1930s Depression and a 3 1/2 -year production interruption during the war left the motorists clamoring for cars.

Manufacturers returned to production as quickly as possible and although they were warmed-over 1942 models, market buyers snapped them up as fast as the factories could make them. Amidst this market demand, the Chevrolet 1947 production line-up cars were sure shot winners even before its release.

The 1947 Chevrolet Coupe (Stylemaster 6 Series EJ / Fleetmaster 6 Series EK) was released with the intention of attracting the youth population as well as the business class people. Sporting a stylish look it was a grand commercial success, even though it lacked the unique aroma, which was synonymous to the Chevy's yearly production line.

Some of the features of this 6-passenger, 2-door, and 5-window 1947 Chevrolet Coupe include:

Six Cylinder Engine delivering 90 BHP at 3300 RPM

Compression Ratio - 6.5

Piston Displacement - 216.5 Cu.In.

Bore and Stroke: 3-1/2 x 3-3/4

Normal Oil Pressure - 14 lbs

Wheelbase - 116"

Fuel Tank - 16 gallons

Although lagging considerably behind Chevy's heritage of continuous development of its yearly productions, in both quality and performance, the 1947 line-up only meant to be a small hint of the future Chevy innovations and developments, based on completely revamped designs and technical breakthroughs.
