New Austin Lancer (16th Nov 1959)

A new family Austin saloon developed after half a million miles of local testing, has been announced by the British Motor Corporation of Australia.

Specially deigned for Australian conditions, the car - the Austin Lancer series II - is built almost entirely of Australian materials and is a longer, fin styled and mechanically advanced version of the original lancer announced early last year.

A feature of the Lancer is a new type grille which gives the car a wide low look.

The Australian content of the new car is claimed to be as high as any car built in Australia and is equal to that of the

Morris Major Series II which was announced in July.

Mechanical's and structural components of the Lancer and Major are interchangeable. This is in lines with B.M.C. (Australia) policy to rationalise its models enabling it to sell vehicles and spare parts at the lowest possible prices and enduring quick maintenance.

The Lancer is fully manufactured at the new plant of B.M.C. (Australia) at Victoria Park, Sydney
