Fully reconditioned 7 tooth steering box recently fitted. It has been converted to 12 volts and fitted with an alternator. The car is in sound mechanical condition and passed a recent "Warrant of Fitness." The car was used extensively by George Ray ( the previous owner) in Australia, touring the Australian outback. It has been around Australia and crossed the country several times, without any problems. The back of the body is long enough to sleep in, even if you are 6ft. The car has been accepted the NZ Vintage Car Club and has an ID No. It was used on the VCC Irishman Rally 2007, driving to and from the event from Hawea in New Zealand. The car is in Hawea at present. Price $17,000.00. N. Z. 1930 Rolls Royce 1930 Rolls Royce Phantom 11 192XJ. Sold new in London to Mr Bracewell Smith as a two door fixed head sports coupe by Windovers. Later it was converted to a hearse. It was still owned in the UK as a chassis, only between 1965 and 1972 when sold to a dealer. Ray Scampton of Whangarei purchased the project chassis, and commenced restoration. Gulf Motor Bodies of Auckland constructed the frame for the new 2 door fixed head body, built to a style by Gurney Nutting. Amongst the work done to the mechanical side of the P11 was a new radiator core, new white metaling in the motor, new camshaft, new engine blocks, complete set of new valves, and new rear brake drums. Magneto was fully restored. The Rolls has been owned for 23 years by its former owner, and 26 years under restoration. Mechanically all original. No parts donated from any other car. Chassis complete in its entirety. Purchased in May 2001 as an unfinished project. The following parts were then fitted: Window winders and glass, door panels, bonnet, splash apron, front bumper, body mouldings, all interior wood trim, paint and upholstery. The leather is Connelly hide. All new panel work paint upholstery and all new carpets throughout. A very pleasing style of vehicle. The 192XJ is a car of exceptional style and elegance. Chassis sand blasted - new shackles, kingpins, wheel bearings, brake cables, linings etc. Wheels: 4 new tyres, split rims (repairs), tubes and liners, steering joints replaced etc. Motor -Block sleeved fitted & bored to standard, new pistons, rings, rods (re-metalled) timing chain, head machined + block, 12 stainless valves. Six cylinder, colour of body navy blue & black. 4 owners that are traceable. 28900 miles, H gear box. Mid 1970s restoration, new floor carpet, luggage rack, new battery, original leather seats, light covers. The body paint work is ok, but I feel that a new paint job in future would bring up to pristine order, as well as some other minor touch ups. (Says the owner) Spare tyres (one new) and rims. Spare parts e.g. axle, lights, vacuum pump, etc. Now reduced to $18,000, NZ. ONO. to sell. This vehicle runs well and hasn't had a lot of hard use. Points to notice. The large floor area in the rear seating compartment. (You could hold a ball in there! !) The immaculate chrome work. The depth of tread in the tyres. This vehicle was converted from a four door sedan into a race car in 1960 in Oamaru, New Zealand by Alec Reid, then during the next decade raced with considerable success, considering the huge weight of the machine. During conversion, the chassis was cut in half and the rear end turned upside down, make the diff underslung which unwittingly was identical to a 1929 one-off factory speedster and the '29 Trexler Special which competed in the 1930 Indianapolis 500. This vehicle, unlike the other American pair, also has its engine and gearbox lowered to promote faster cornering.In its N.Z Otago racing career, it often won Fastest Time of the Day - FTD, or best local entrant, in the many grass racing track meets, hill climbs, or standing quarters it entered in.Due to the restorer's ill health this car is for sale.
