REIGATE FESTIVAL One of the regular charity events supported by the SVVS is the Reigate Festival held in Reigate Town Centre where we support the Reigate Business Guild in raising money for various charities via various events including a noisily festive Caribbean Steel Band. |

The SVVS Vehicle display is held in the now closed Tunnel Road which includes the famous Reigate Tunnel. Reigate Tunnel was opened in 1824 by Lord Somers beneath whose land the new road passed. The road provided a short cut on the route from London to Brighton. A gate was erected at the lower end, nearest the town and the tolls were levied which varied from 1/2 penny for a horse to 6 pence for a coach and four. Travellers on foot went through free. Tunnel Road was taken over and freed of tolls in 1858 by the Reigate Trust, which at this time had control of all roads in the county of Surrey; - all 27 miles of them. Reigate Tunnel is thought to be one of the very earliest road tunnels and pre-dates the Rotherhithe foot tunnel built by Brunel between 1825 and 1843 during the reign of George IV. Tunnel Road was eventually closed because it was too narrow for modern traffic which could not pass simultaneously in both directions. |

The SVVS attendance grows year by year and is currently up to 27 cars. Cars on display in the Tunnel included, in order of arrival, |
