The history of the company, needless to say, is just as interesting as the tractor itself. Fowler is an agricultural engineer that first made steam tractors. The company started producing fuel engine-powered tractors right after the Second World War (specifically during the 1940s-1950s period), although the company actually started producing diesel engines during the 1930s (right when the market demand for steam engines due to the demand for diesel ones). After the 1948 model, Folwer created a VFA crawler. Only 46 were made--and only one is believed to have survived (it was bought in 2008 at more than 20,000 pounds). The VF line lasted from 1948 to 1952, while succeeding VFA line was built from 1952 to 1957. The Challenger line was made from 1952 to 1972. |
