Heidi Smith's 1965 Volkswagen (Gladstone Vintage and Classic car Club) |

This little VW goes by the name of "Murphy's Law" It got it's name by being trouble from day one. Heidi, first fell in love with VW's when she saw "Herbie Goes Bananas" when she was about six years old, and had wanted one from that day on. Eleven years later her Dad saw this vehicle in a yard knee deep in grass, and when Heidi went to see it she fell in love. |
The vehicle was trailer'd home and spent the next couple of years under the house. True to its name anything that could go wrong did. Pulling it apart was easy, but putting it back together was not. new floor pans and new door sills and the chassis all fitted back together…..But the body did not. It took a few adjustments and the car was whole again. All the little VW was missing, was the engine. A big thanks to Greg Hughes for rebuilding the engine in a couple of days. Heidi and her Dad got the engine back at 8.30 PM and had it fitted and running by 11pm. The next day it saw daylight for the first time in three years and a half years. The following day it was registered and had its first run to the Mt Larcomb show. June 1997. |
